Why Celebrate African-American History?

Thursday, February 18, 2016

African-American History Month is a time to understand the history of African-Americans. The hope behind the celebration of Black History at New City is that this understanding will lead to greater love and cross cultural fellowship between people who don't often get a chance to understand one another.

Yet, as we celebrate African-American Month, we need to focus on the spiritual truth that though we were once separated by differing social and racial realities, we are now  united by one common spiritual reality. In God's church, there is no “Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free Anglo, Asian, Latino, black or white, rich or poor.' All of God's children have one Lord, one faith, one baptism and one history.

Plan now to join us for a month long celebration that includes special speakers, music, meals and programs.
