Juneteenth Community Festival June 14

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received news of their freedom – over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth is intended as a profound reminder of God's liberating power, calling for reflection on the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and the full realization of freedom for all people. It's a day to celebrate progress and recommit to ministry of justice, mercy and reconciliation.

Friends and members of New City Fellowship are invited to join the Alton Park community in a celebration of Juneteenth at the Bethlehem Center (200 W. 38th St.) from 1-4 PM. There will be both some free food, but also several food trucks on 38th Street. Several musical, educational and artistic venders will also be present. The Westside Baptist Church choir and the new Chattanooga community choir, BRIDGES OF HARMONY HERITAGE will be performing. Oliver Trimiew, The Crumbles, and Lunard Lewis are members of this choir. Bring a chair or just walk around and meet neighbors.
