Team Details

  • Average team size:  8 -10 team members; both men and women welcome
  • Age requirement:  Adults (& teens if accompanied by a parent / guardian)

Logistics and Costs

  • Lodging:  One night at a hotel in Montego Bay at the beginning and end of the trip; an Airbnb and church members’ homes in the Black River area
  • Estimated cost for transportation, food, and accommodations: $1,000 excluding airfare (a portion of the team fee will help to purchase building materials); some financial help available and help in raising funds
  • Travel to and within the country:  A nonstop flight from Atlanta to Montego Bay is typically 3 hours; we will have a rental van and a second vehicle to transport luggage and any supplies from Montego Bay to Black River (a two hour drive).  

Trip Objectives

  • What are the specific objectives of the trip?  To bring spiritual and practical encouragement to pastors, their church members, and community by working alongside them to repair / replace roofs damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Melissa. No prior construction experience is necessary in order to bring help and encouragement in the gospel.
  • How will success be measured?  Through meaningful relationships built with  our Jamaican brothers and sisters and through offering encouragement and assistance in meeting their basic need for shelter

Health and Safety

  • How would the team deal with any medical emergency?  Team members will be covered by Seven Corners medical / travel insurance; there are good private and a public hospital available in Montego Bay..
  • Are there any travel advisories or restrictions for this group?  No
  • What are the visa requirements for our group?  No visa required; Just a valid passport (6 months or more away from expiration date)
  • Are there any vaccination or health requirements?  No

Partnerships

Who are our local contacts or partner organizations?  Pastor Sylvan James of Cataboo Baptist Church; Pastor Duane Henry of Vineyard Baptist Church and Sellington Baptist Church just outside the town of Black River; their churches are part of the Association of Independent Baptist Churches of Jamaica.
